Can engine compression testing eliminate the need for a valve adjustment?

Engine compression testing measures the pressure created in the cylinders during the compression stroke of the engine. While this test is important for diagnosing issues such as worn piston rings, damaged cylinder walls, or leaking valves, it does not address the physical condition or alignment of the valves themselves.

A valve adjustment is necessary when the gap between the valve stems and the rocker arms (or the valve lifters) becomes too wide or too narrow, which can affect the engine's performance. Compression testing cannot determine if valve clearances are within specification or if they require adjustment. Thus, while compression testing can indicate that there is an issue needing attention, it cannot eliminate the need for regular valve adjustments based on wear and maintenance requirements.
